I am a small mobile independent business, specialising in a range of massage treatments which I offer in the comfort of your own environment. I specialise in several therapies, which include classic Swedish, deep tissue, manual lymphatic drainage, pregnancy and infant massage. I provide a high-quality service, having been trained and awarded VTCT (ITEC) internationally recognised certifications in all the therapies which I provide.
Swedish massage, also known as classic massage is a whole- body therapeutic treatment using long, rhythmic strokes and kneading and vibration techniques to the superficial muscles. Using light pressure, this massage aims to release tension, improve circulation and stimulate the nervous system to reduce stress and anxiety. This treatment can improve sleep quality and promote an overall sense of relaxation, making it an excellent choice for your first massage!
Deep tissue massage is a more effective means of releasing muscle tension and stiffness in the body. Using hands, arms and elbows, slow, firm pressure is applied to the deeper muscle layers, which helps to lengthen shortened muscle fibres and break down scar tissue and adhesions. This technique also increases blood circulation to tight muscles, improves joint mobility, promotes faster healing of injuries and assists in the release of toxins which helps the body to rejuvenate.
MLD is a light, skin stretching therapy which involves gentle, rhythmic circles and pulsing techniques to promote the circulation of lymphatic fluid round the body. Lymph fluid carries substances vital to the immune system and removes waste products and excess fluid from the cell tissues. It is a deeply relaxing treatment which can help to protect the body against bacteria and viruses, reduce problems associated with fluid retention and may also improve chronic conditions such as sinusitis. This massage technique is a full body treatment, which begins around the neck region to clear the lymphatic pathways and ends with treatment to the facial area. Facial lymphatic drainage has particular aesthetic benefits, as it can reduce puffiness, bloating and improve skin quality, resulting in an overall ‘glow’!
I offer massage in pregnancy after 14 weeks gestation. Whilst pregnancy is a wonderful time, the physiological changes which occur as a result of postural and hormonal changes, can also cause some discomfort. Many women experience lower back pain, leg swelling and changes in usual sleep patterns. Massage can help to relieve these symptoms and may reduce any levels of anxiety and stress through the release of vital ‘feel good’ hormones. This treatment is performed in a similar way to Swedish massage, except for a few modifications with body positioning, which ensure the safety and comfort of both mother and baby. I am also able to teach your partner some techniques to use during your labour!
Massage after birth can also be an uplifting experience, giving women the opportunity to relax and recover after having their baby. Birth takes its toll on the muscles of the lower back, buttocks and thighs and you may feel bruised and sore after the birth. Massage can help to relieve these issues and importantly, can provide an opportunity for well deserved ‘me-time’.
Baby massage has been used in many cultures for centuries and the benefits of this practice are widely recognised. Massage can bring relief to a number of common problems which babies experience, including colic, teething and sleep issues and is very important for bonding, aiding relaxation and reducing stress in both the parent and their baby. A daily massage can also help to increase the baby’s stimulation, which in turn can help them better able to cope with different situations. I offer a four weeks practical massage instruction course which can take place either on an individual basis, or in group sessions. Group sessions are also a great way to meet new parents, gain mutual support and make new friends!
